His Holiness Pope Francis has arrived in Santiago (Chile) as part of his South American trip that will also take him to cities of Lima, Puerto Maldonado, and Trujillo (Peru) between January 18 and 21.
The aircraft touched down at 7:18 PM local time in the Chilean capital.
Upon arrival, he was welcomed by Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.
Peru
As is known, the Holy Father will arrive on
January 18 in the Peruvian capital,
Lima.
He will travel to
Puerto Maldonado —the capital of rainforest Madre de Dios region— on the following day.
On January 20, the Catholic Church's head will head to La Libertad region's capital city
Trujillo on Peru's northern coast.
According to schedule, the Supreme Pontiff will hold a multitudinous mass at Lima's
Las Palmas Air Base on January 21.
This will be the first time —in almost 30 years— that a Pope visits the Andean nation after Pope John Paul II's May 1988 visit.
