Peruvian exports to Australia up 158% in 2016

Peruvian exports to Australia totaled US$260 million in 2016, a 158% increase from the previous year, Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) informed on Wednesday.

According to CCL Foreign Trade Center (CCEX) Manager Carlos Garcia, growth was mainly driven by traditional shipments which neared US$211 million (up by over 300%). 

Products

The main exported goods were mineral concentrates of lead (+450%), zinc (+600%) and copper (+1,000%).

On the other hand, non-traditional product shipments decreased 6.7% in the analyzed period, thus totaling US$52.2 million.

Imports

Likewise, CCL affirmed imports from the Oceania nation had amounted to US$103 million in 2016, down by 22%. 

Within this framework, imports of intermediate- and capital-goods accounted for 66% and 24%, respectively, of the total.

Positive trade balance

Trade between Peru and Australia stood at US$363 million at the end of 2016, thus registering an average annual growth of 12%.
