Peruvian court bars ex-President Fujimori from leaving the country

14:40 | Lima, May. 15.

A Peruvian court on Tuesday barred former President Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) from leaving the South American nation for four months, within the framework of the Pativilca case.

The ruling came after the order to appear in court evolved from a simple to a restrictive status.

Under this premise, Fujimori is obliged to stay in the locality where he resides (Lima province) and shall request legal authorization if he needs to get out of the capital.

Likewise, he cannot change his address without prior knowledge and approval of the court.

Also, the 79-year-old former president must comply with all subpoenas he receives.

It must be noted the order may be extended for additional periods.

The court stipulated that police and immigration authorities should be informed of this decision.

In case the imposed rules of conducts are not followed, the measure will be revoked and pretrial detention will be ordered.

Last February, the National Criminal Court ruled that the humanitarian pardon —granted by former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski— would not excuse Fujimori from future trials in the Pativilca case involving the death of six people tortured in 1992.

Fujimori and other 22 people —including Colina Group and Armed Forces members— are being investigated in such case.
