Peru's participation at World of Coffee Budapest 2017 resulted in nearly US$17 million in sale commitments for the following 12 months, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) informed.

Recognized as Europe's leading coffee event, World of Coffee is an itinerant fair that takes place annually and serves as a commercial showcase for specialty coffees in the Old Continent.

This year's edition saw the participation of 200 exhibitors from around the world, and marks the first time Peru takes part in the event.

The Peruvian delegation was composed of the following coffee cooperatives and business groups: Cooperativa Agraria de Servicio Cafe Hemalu de los Bosques del Inka (COOPCHEBI), Perunor, Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Bagua Grande (CAC Bagua Grande) and Cooperativa Agroindustrial de Mazamari (CAI Mazamari).

Peru's participation was intended to strengthen the country's position as sustainable and specialty coffee producer.

Ethiopia, Germany, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Poland and Ukraine expressed their interest in the national coffee. A total of 70 business meetings have been arranged.

Peruvian coffee incorporates a strong social factor, as it involves over 223,482 families across Peru and encompasses sustainable trade behavior codes.

It also builds in social, environment and economic responsibility considerations, taking into account that its organic, sustainable and fair trade certifications provide value-added contributions to underprivileged communities.

World of Coffee Budapest featured an interactive exhibition with the world's most innovative coffee industry suppliers, three full days of thrilling competitions, inspiring symposiums, seminars, educational workshops and a packed social program filled with plenty of events.
