Peruvian economy expanded 3.39% in May 2017 and marked 94 straight months of growth, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported on Friday.
Such result has led to a 1.96% accumulated rise so far this year, as well as a 3% expansion in the past twelve months.
The Inca nation's productive activity thus beat expectations of the
Economy and Finance Ministry, which had projected GDP increase of around 3% for the fifth month of the year.
May GDP's positive evolution was fundamentally driven by the staggering 280% rise in the fishing sector, INEI head Anibal Sanchez revealed.
Deseasonalized GDP
Sanchez also said Peru's deseasonalized GDP inched up 0.79% in the analyzed month, a rise from
April's result (0.47%).
This way, deseasonalized GDP remains on the upswing for the second month in a row —bouncing back from the -0.4% posted in March— and is likely to favor the national economy in coming months.
