Peru's GDP may have expanded nearly 5% in March, 6% in April

11:08 | Lima, May. 14.

Peruvian economy may have grown nearly 5% in March and 6% in April, figures that had not been registered for a long time, Economy and Finance Minister David Tuesta projected.

"It is almost certain that March’s growth, (…) will near 5%, a figure that had not been seen for quite some time," Tuesta told Latina TV channel.

Likewise, national GDP may have increased almost 6% last April, the cabinet member estimated.

"In May, we are noting that the Mother's Day campaign has been great in terms of projected figures, and it is very likely to register similar results," he underlined.

Via Twitter, Tuesta stated the Economy and Finance Ministry's (MEF) commitment is to the Inca country's economic growth.

"MEF's commitment is to economic growth. From the first day (in office), we have injected and facilitated public and private resources for (increasing) several points in GDP (…)," the post reads.

"The economy is recovering. Employment will surely grow," he added.

In addition, the minister considered that these figures are the result of concrete decisions undertaken by the Government.

Those measures will enable the country to inject nearly S/60 billion (about US$18.39 billion) into national production, which accounts for 8% of GDP.
