The budget bill for 2018 fiscal year reaffirms Peruvian Government's pledge to improve education, health and public security sectors, plus its commitment to rebuilding "Coastal El Niño" stricken areas, Prime Minister Fernando Zavala said Thursday.

In his address to the Congress, Zavala assured further resources have been allocated —in a transparent manner— to every sector.

The 2018 Public Budget Bill amounts to S/157.158 billion (about US$48.49 billion), thus showing a 10% growth compared to current year's budget.

The Cabinet chief also noted this is the first time the Kuczynski administration proposes a public budget. Therefore, it reflects the Government's stated priorities.

For instance, the education sector will receive S/28.303 billion (about US$8.733 billion).

Homeland security, on the other hand, will benefit from a S/9.721 billion (about US$2.999 billion) boost.

Another priority topic is the reconstruction of Coastal El Niño phenomenon hit areas.

To that end, the Council of Ministers has recently passed the Reconstruction with Changes Plan, which foresees an investment of S/25.655 billion (about US$7.923 billion).
