Peru Superfoods see US$1.8 million in sale commitments in Texas

14:46 | Houston (U.S.), Mar. 26.

The Superfoods Peru brand mission in Houston generated around US$1.8 million in sale commitments for the upcoming 12 months, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) reported Monday.

The delegation was composed of five Peruvian agro-industrial companies: Exportadora Romex, Villa Andina, Bio Omegas, Laboratorios Fitosana, and Agroindustria Osho.

Those firms participated in business rounds with 20 buyers, including large enterprises in the retail and food service sectors such as Goya, Sysco Corporation, Atalanta, and Eastland, among others.

At the event, the most demanded Peruvian products were quinoa grains, powdered beverages, chocolate, and snacks.

Additionally, this delegation had the opportunity to visit the Port of Houston, deemed the busiest port in the U.S., in terms of foreign tonnage.

It must be noted Houston —the fourth-largest city in the United States with 2.3 million inhabitants— relies on a great economic activity.

The mission was organized by PromPeru, in partnership with Peru's Trade Office in the said southern city. This initiative was part of the second phase of Superfood Peru's international campaign, which includes specialized missions in Latin America, Asia, Europe, and North America.

The event was held on March 7 in Houston, Texas.

It is worth mentioning Peruvian Superfood exports surpassed US$3.461 billion in 2017, a 19% rise over the previous year.
