Peru: Soon-to-be PM unveils names of new ministers

11:12 | Lima, Apr. 2.

Congressman Cesar Villanueva, who is expected to be sworn in as Peru's Prime Minister this afternoon, has confirmed some names of the new Cabinet members.

According to the legislator, David Tuesta, Patricia Balbuena, and Silvia Pessah will take on the portfolios of Finance, Culture, and Health, respectively.

Likewise, Salvador Heresi, Nestor Popolizio, and Daniel Cordova will be sworn in as ministers of Justice, Foreign Affairs, and Production, respectively.

In an interview with local radio station Exitosa, Villanueva affirmed the new Cabinet is composed of professionals who will stand out for their peace of mind, eloquence, and dedication.

In statements to RPP radio and TV news station, the official admitted he had not had any plans to be part of the Cabinet at the time he presented the impeachment motion, but he changed his mind after discussing it with President Martin Vizcarra.

"I accepted the responsibility since Peru comes first [...]. We want to make it a viable country and work hard. Our administration cannot be characterized by clichés," he underlined.

According to the lawmaker, the first Council of Ministers session will be held tonight at 9:00 PM, after the swearing-in ceremony.

Mr. Vizcarra took office on March 23, after his predecessor Pedro Pablo Kuczynski resigned in the face of a second impeachment vote and amid political crisis.
