Reconstruction with Changes' works will add one percentage point to Peru's GDP during the next three years and invigorate the construction sector, CESEL Ingenieros consulting firm CEO Raul Delgado Sayan projected Wednesday.

The government-run Reconstruction with Changes Plan is aimed at refurbishing areas damaged by "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon between January and March this year.

According to Delgado, said projects will enable construction activities to continue expanding.

"The construction sector should expand twice the general growth rate. Thus, we must work on infrastructure projects for prevention purposes […]," he added.

Likewise, Delgado pointed out construction is currently the most important sector contributing to GDP growth, as it is involved in other areas.

"If you want to grow, you have to build […]. The important thing is that the sector might expand 10%, 11% or 12% due to the reconstruction projects [to be implemented] in the coming years," he said.

On the other hand, Delgado highlighted that mega-projects are being properly unblocked and that reconstruction works will be opportunely added to have a multiplier effect on job creation, as well as on trade dynamism.
