Peru: Puno coffee exported to Russia

17:27 | Puno (Puno region), May. 14.

San Ignacio LTDA Cooperative —based in South-Andean Puno region's Tambopata Valley— sent its first shipment containing 10 quintals of coffee (460 kg) to Russia.

Composed of 125 producers from Sandia province, this organization grows one of the finest coffee beans in the Inca country.

Peru's Government, through the Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri), co-financed a business plan worth S/877,383 (about US$269,053), which included diverse training programs.

However, the most significant contribution was certainly the technological one.

In this sense, Minagri provided the cooperative with the equipment and supplies necessary to optimize its production process.

Peruvian coffee in Russia

San Ignacio LTDA is one of the oldest coffee organizations in Sandia province. Its fine beans have arrived in Russia —for the first time— through the indirect export model.

It must be noted this coffee's cupping score stands at 86.5 points (on a scale of 1 to 100).

This type of bean is sold under the "Kori" brand, which means gold in Quechua and Aymara.
