Peru President oversees prevention works in Trujillo

17:07 | Lima, Jan. 26.

President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday visited Peru's northern city of Trujillo to supervise prevention works on Viru River, one of the most affected areas by Coastal El Niño phenomenon last year.

The Head of State expressed his wish that all reconstruction works be well done and last several years.

Joined by regional authorities and State ministers, Mr. Kuczynski announced the tender for building a new bridge will be awarded in the coming week.

"[…] We have to build a good bridge —with a good design— because shoddy constructions are weak. We want good works so that the bridge and riprap abutments last for many years," the statesman expressed.

Likewise, he informed the Government has allocated S/100 million (about US$31 million) for various freshwater projects in favor of Viru's citizens.

The Peruvian leader oversaw cleaning and channelization works on a 24 km stretch along Viru River as part of governmental interventions to prevent impacts of future natural disasters.

It must be noted these efforts entail an investment of S/27.96 million (about US$8.71 million).
