Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski praised joint efforts —along with regional and local authorities— to undertake refurbishment works and prevent Viru River flooding in northern La Libertad region.

The statesman monitored channelization works on a 1.5 km stretch along Viru River, as well as the construction of a bridge linking Huancaquito Bajo and El Carmelo hamlets.

The bridge will be completed in five months with a S/8.6 million (around US$2.65 million) budget.

Of that amount, S/4.9 million (US$1.5 million) will be provided by local authorities, and the rest will be funded by the Authority for Reconstruction with Changes.

The Peruvian leader was joined by Ministers Jose Manuel Hernandez (Agriculture and Irrigation), Cayetana Aljovin (Energy and Mines), and Bruno Giuffra (Transport and Communications), as well as by lawmakers from the abovementioned region.
