Peru: President Kuczynski bid farewell to aides at Government Palace

17:32 | Lima, Mar. 22.

Departing President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski bid farewell to employees of the Government Palace Thursday at the entrance courtyard.

The resigning leader extended his greetings and best wishes to the staff, who stopped working to say goodbye.

Dressed in casual clothes, Kuczynski showed up joined by Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz, who stayed until he left the presidential building.

During his visit, the outgoing official received warm greetings and tokens of appreciation from workers who gathered at the place. Then, he shook hands with everyone in return.

President Kuczynski announced his resignation in a televised address to the nation on Wednesday afternoon.

The announcement came after the opposition alleged that the embattled President's allies were trying to buy votes ahead of an impeachment motion vote.

Now, Peru's First Vice-President Martin Vizcarra is expected to take over as the new Head of State, according to a constitutional provision.
