By formalizing this candidacy, the Foreign Affairs minister reaffirmed Peru's dedication to promoting initiatives that benefit the entire international maritime community, ensuring fair and efficient maritime transport, and consolidating its legacy as a key maritime nation in the South Pacific.
The diplomat highlighted Peru's active participation in IMO objectives, mentioning key initiatives such as the request for the designation of the Nasca Ridge National Reserve and the Grau Tropical Sea as Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas (PSSAs).
Similarly, the ambassador emphasized the strengthening of Peru's network of marine protected areas, which ensures the preservation of endemic and migratory species, as well as vulnerable ecosystems.
Moreover, Minister Schialer underscored Peru's active role in establishing the 2023 Strategy for the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from transport vessels in the maritime sector.
In line with the
UN Sustainable Development Goals,
he stated that Peru promotes the inclusion of women in the maritime sector through educational agreements that facilitate access to technical and professional training programs in the maritime field.
"Our commitment to sustainability is also reflected in the fight against illegal fishing and the promotion of a responsible fishing industry. As one of the world’s leading fishing nations, Peru has adopted international instruments —such as the Port State Measures Agreement within the FAO framework— to ensure the sustainable management of marine resources," he emphasized.
