Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz has affirmed she is willing to work hand-in-hand with the Legislative Branch in order to maintain democratic peace and balance in Peru.

According to Araoz, it is not about yielding to pressure as there must be room to negotiate for a greater good.

In this sense, the also congresswoman pointed out that the Government shows firmness by meeting the Peruvian people's needs.

Likewise, the also Second Vice-President highlighted Peruvian citizens would be the most affected following an eventual Congress shutdown.

According to Peruvian Constitution, the President is entitled to shut down Parliament if two Council of Ministers are not granted confidence votes.

As is known, Araoz was sworn in as Prime Minister on September 17. Previously, former Prime Minister Fernando Zavala stepped down, as opposition-controlled Congress had dismissed his cabinet with a no-confidence vote.

Therefore, a joint work between Executive and Legislative Branches is fundamental, she concluded.
