Peru PM: President to lead Gov't efforts in fight against anemia, malnutrition

17:29 | Lima, Apr. 18.

President Martin Vizcarra himself will lead the Government's efforts to combat anemia and malnutrition, Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva affirmed Wednesday.

Following the Council of Ministers session, Villanueva stressed that Vizcarra's dedication proves the importance the current administration places on combatting these two problems affecting Peruvian children.

"At the highest level, this (effort) will be led by President Martin Vizcarra himself, and in his absence I will be the one (in charge)," the cabinet member expressed.

Villanueva went on to add the Executive Branch's objective is to complete duties after having —remarkably— managed to reduce the number of children affected by said diseases.

In this regard, the also-Congressman underlined that the Government prefers to obtain positive results in this task, rather than merely positive macroeconomic figures.

He noted the Vizcarra administration will be even more proud of its efforts if —in addition to improving the macroeconomic indexes— it enables the next President to receive a country in 2021, whose children do not suffer from anemia or malnutrition.

The Government expects the commitment of all civil society segments to achieve this objective, he concluded.
