South African officials visit Peru to learn about social programs

A delegation of South African officials traveled to Junin region to learn about how Development and Social Inclusion Ministry (Midis) provides public services through social programs.

The mission aims to gain a better understanding of Peru's efforts to curb chronic child malnutrition and anemia.

In this sense, the officials got to know the articulated efforts of the Regional Department of Health (Diresa) and Cuna Mas social program in Chongos Bajo and Huancan districts.

They also learned about the Cooperation Fund for Social Development (Foncodes) and Juntos social program in Chambara and Pucara, respectively.

In this regard, South Africa's Department of Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation official Mastoera Sadan affirmed they are really impressed that Peru has managed to reduce chronic child malnutrition in a relatively short period of time.

“We come to learn from your experience in terms of reducing chronic child malnutrition,” Sadan noted.

“It is not about numbers; the question is how to do it. That is key for us and that is what we want to learn from you,” she added.

Additionally, Midis outlined the sector's efforts in favor of children living in poverty and extreme poverty.
 
The African delegation was composed of officials from the Department of Health, as well as the Department of Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation.

Since 2014, Midis has offered international technical cooperation to countries in the region, as well as to more distant territories.
