The Peruvian Interior Ministry's Special Project for Control and Reduction of Illegal Crops in Alto Huallaga (CORAH) has eradicated 17,285.64 hectares (ha) of coca plantations so far in 2017, the institution reported Monday.
Illicit crops were going to be used for drug production and trafficking operations in Ucayali, Tingo Maria and Aguaytia areas.
The stings
eradicated over 13,976 m2 of seedlings that were meant to expand coca fields.
Additionally, anti-drug agents destroyed 94 labs, where the drug was processed.
Peru's National Police, for its part, intervened other 21 labs in Irazola, Padre Abad, Aucayacu, Madre Mia-La Morada, Monzon, Ciudad Constitucion and Tocache.
CORAH agents eradicated 5,927.76 ha of coca plantations in different locations across Tingo Maria, including Aucayacu, Bella, Cahicoto, La Merced de Locro, Tamshi, Luyando, Matapalo, Supte, Las Palmas, Bolson de San Martín and Huayhuante.
In Aguaytia, the stings destroyed 5,758.46 ha in coca-growing localities of Irazola, Padre Abad and Codo de Pozuzo.
In addition, coca crops eradicated in Ucayali reached 5,599.42 ha. Eradication took place in Campo Verde, Tournavista Von Humboldt, Honoria, Curimana, Irazola, Padre Abad, Puerto Inca Iparia Cashiboya and Neshuya.
