Peru's travel appeal got yet another recognition, this time the title of Best Cultural Tourism Destination at the 2017 International Travel Expo (ITE), held in Hong Kong last weekend.

The Inca country shone as the only South American nominee thanks to articulated efforts by Peru's Trade Office in Shanghai (Ocex Shanghai), as well as tourism companies: Coltur, Cetours, Jaguar Aventura Tours, Delfin Amazon Travel, Peru Passion Tours, Condor Travel-Tiana, Tradex Security and Mava Travel.

Tour operators had the opportunity to promote Peruvian attractions focusing on the Free Independent Travelers segment: (mostly) couples traveling the world on the hunt for lesser-known tourist gems.

Surveys on the best global destinations were carried out simultaneously.

Once consolidated, poll data revealed Peru as the favorite location in terms of culture, along with seven others like best beach (Malaysia) and best scenery (Vienna, Austria) destinations.

Added to a recently-implemented visa waiver for Chinese nationals, said recognition is bound to translate into greater Chinese tourist inflow to Peruvian attractions like the majestic Machu Picchu citadel, the enigmatic Nazca Lines or Chavin de Huantar Temple, to name just a few.

Peru's tourism industry is no new to awards in the Asian Giant. The Andean nation reaped a similar recognition last February during a Hangzhou event, and later another one at a Shanghai tour operators meeting in April.

Peru's Ocexs in Beijing and Shanghai thus continue to promote the country's attractions as favorite tourism destination on that side of the world.

Promotion efforts in China will also include a tourism sector road show tour around Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Hangzhou in September.
