Metal mining production posted a gain of 4.3% in July this year, compared to the same month in 2016, underpinned by rise in copper, gold and zinc output, Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR) reported Tuesday.
Copper production saw a 2.1% rise in the same month, compared to July 2016, mainly explained by the stronger output at
Las Bambas (Apurimac region), with 41,000 fine metric tons (FMT), and at Toromocho (Junin), with 15,000 FMT.
Gold and Zinc
The production of gold grew 2.5%. The increase was attributable to a base effect resulting from
Tambomayo's (Arequipa) start of operations and Poderosa's higher production at gold deposits in Pataz district (La Libertad).
Zinc output, on the other hand, went up 7.1%, explained by higher international prices and greater production at Antamina (Ancash), in line with Glencore's policy in South America of targeting veins with higher zinc and copper contents.
