Peru intends to retain soccer coach Gareca

15:55 | Lima, Apr. 2.

Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) President Edwin Oviedo affirmed the board will intend to renew the contract of Inca team coach Ricardo Gareca.

Remarks came after the National Autonomous Honduran Soccer Federation showed interested in the 60-year-old Argentinean sportsman coaching the Central American team.

Oviedo ruled out the problem —linked to retaining the strategist— is exclusively due to a matter of money. On the contrary, he said it is beyond that.

"[…] There are many things that are being valued in order to renew a technical staff," the FPF President expressed.

"We're prepared and calm to have this conversation with coach Ricardo Gareca following the World Cup," he added.

Oviedo also affirmed FPF prioritizes the coach's contract renewal.

For this reason, the organization will make an important proposal to the trainer, who paved the way for Peru to qualify for a World Cup after 36 years.

"The board has already set it. We will make a proposal to Ricardo. [His] continuity could benefit the team," Oviedo concluded.
