The Peruvian Government will start delivering permanent houses to "Coastal El Niño" victims from Piura and Lambayeque regions in two weeks, Deputy Housing and Urbanism Minister Jorge Arevalo informed Monday.
The weather event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods, which destroyed infrastructure and crops, leaving many citizens homeless.
Within this framework, Arevalo said the "first houses in Piura and Lambayeque [region] are almost done. Each of them has a roof and is currently in the finishing stage."
"They should be completed in the next two weeks," he told El Peruano official gazette.
The official also pointed out
each house is about 40 square meters and has two bedrooms, one
bathroom and a multipurpose space.
Beneficiaries
Arevalo noted 200
affected families will first benefit from this initiative. These recipients are the first identified citizens, who signed agreements.
Likewise, the deputy minister stressed the value of each house equals the Family Housing Bonus (BFH), which is S/22,000 (about US$6,790).
On the other hand, he noted the Housing, Construction and Sanitation Ministry has granted close to 1,500 bonuses so far.
