President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski enacted a law that modifies article 41 of the Peruvian Constitution and provides for the imprescriptibility of crimes against public administration or affecting public property.
"This is significant in the
fight against corruption, which has become a cancer that threatens everyone. We all have to fight this," the statesman was quoted as saying.
This way, public or civil servants committing corruption crimes will be pursued by justice until their situation has been clarified.
The measure is intended to sanction both corrupters and corrupted persons, as well as responsible third parties.
Imprescriptibility will be applicable to the most serious alleged crimes, including
bribery, embezzlement, collusion, conflict of interests, abuse of authority, misappropriation of funds, influence peddling and illicit enrichment.
