Peru's Executive Branch will place further emphasis on management transparency and identification of corruption during its second year in office, Prime Minister Fernando Zavala affirmed on Saturday.

The Cabinet Chief highlighted significant progress made in this sense during President Kuczynski's first year.

Recapping measures taken, Zavala recalled the implementation of "civil death," as well as the first regulation on criminal and administrative penalties banning corrupt companies from State contracts.

Anti-corruption actions also included a register of public officers indicted for corruption and the implementation of expeditious processes to report corruption cases in the public sector.

"This fight [against corruption] is just beginning. We will continue to place emphasis on measures to have a more transparent government and to identify corruption cases during the second year," he told RPP TV and radio news station.

Decentralization

On a different note, the government official anticipated President Kuczynski's administration would carry on working on the decentralization process.

In this respect, he underscored the relevance of articulating efforts with regional governments to reach out to every citizen.

"We must consolidate a united country with strong governing bodies […] We want to strengthen regionalization, which means reinforcing ruling institutions," Zavala concluded.
