Pope Francis' visit to Peru is one of the most important events of the year and constitutes a great opportunity to promote tourism among the thousands of visitors arriving in Puerto Maldonado (Madre de Dios region), Trujillo (La Libertad region), and Lima.
Within this framework, Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) recommends a unique and innovative experience:
Rural Community Tourism.
In this sense, tourists will be able to go fishing, get to know the nature and culture of each place, perform adventure activities, and enjoy popular art, among others activities. Prices start at S/95 (about US$29).
Lima region
Laraos district —located a few hours from
Lima— is a
rural tourism destination nestled in Nor Yauyos-Cochas Landscape Reserve.
Laraos is well known for its impressive pre-Hispanic Andenes (agricultural terraces), its mild climate, and the diversity of its market garden.
Visitors will be able to witness traditional dances, participate in agricultural tasks, fish trout in nearby lagoons or go hiking to see rock paintings, as well as the local flora and fauna.
Madre de Dios region
Next to Puerto Maldonado and Tambopata National Reserve, visitors will find Posada Amazonas Hostel.
This initiative is possible thanks to the cordial relationship between the private company and the Ese'eja de Infierno community.
In this tourist destination, people will be able to visit clay licks (locally known as Collpas), sail on Tres Chimbadas Lake, walk along the jungle paths, and discover the fascinating world of medicinal plants.
La Libertad region
The local community has developed various activities inside the forest, such as bird watching and horseback riding.
Other activities also include visiting two nearby lagoons and tasting the delicious gastronomy made with local products.
