Peru: Executive to speed up budget allocations to create jobs, boost national economy

14:13 | Lima, Apr. 3.

Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva announced Peruvian Government will speed up budget allocations across the country to generate employment and economic dynamism.

To do so, conversations have taken place with Comptroller General's and Prosecutor's Offices so as to boost monitoring mechanisms.

"Let's speed up the country with allocations. Money has to be circulating to generate employment and dynamism. It has to be a fast but transparent move," he told ATV local channel.

Villanueva stressed the need to stop thinking that control measures paralyze government officials' decisions.

He said supervisory bodies shall determine if responsibilities are met, but underlined the Executive's willingness to speed up transparent investments.

According to the newly sworn-in government official, the budget has often been used to put pressure on local and regional authorities.

In fact —he continued— speeding up budget allocations has a monetary cost nowadays, and several mayors opt for it to push forward works within their jurisdictions.

No one escapes control

The Cabinet chief assured the bill aimed at strengthening the Comptroller General's Office —enacted at the Government Palace— is applicable to all public bodies.

Accordingly, he asked the Comptroller General's Office to explain the bill does not infringe control on Parliament, whose accounts are being audited by said supervisory body.
