The newly-sworn-in Prime Minister of Peru, Cesar Villanueva Arevalo, has substantial work experience in public administration. Below is an overview of his résumé.
He was born in Tarapoto City on 5 August 1946.
He studied elementary education at Public School No 191 in said jungle city and spent his high school years at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe School in the country's capital, Lima.
Villanueva graduated from Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
He has held several high-ranking positions at major enterprises and, according to his résumé, served as manager at Rainforest Trading (2000-2003).
In the political arena, he led Movimiento Regional Nueva Amazonia (Regional Movement New Amazon) and was San Martin Region Governor for two terms (2007-2010 and 2011-2014).
Furthermore, the new Cabinet chief was chairman of the National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR).
It must be noted his administration implemented the San Martin region's development plan attached to a coca crop substitution program.
Villanueva also served as President of the Council of Ministers from 31 October 2013 to 24 February 2014, under Ollanta Humala's administration.
In 2016, he was elected lawmaker for the Alianza Por el Progreso (APP) party.
