Peru: Cusco holds Grand Parade for World Tourism Day, delighting attendees

10:56 | Cusco (Cusco region), Sep. 29.

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, Cusco Region Government —through Cusco's Regional Management of Foreign Trade, Tourism, and Handicrafts (Gercetur)— continued with a series of activities, including the Grand Parade, organized in honor of this event that stands out nationally.

The aim was to raise awareness about the social, cultural, and economic value of tourism in Cusco, southeastern Peru.

Every September 27, the world comes together to celebrate the importance of tourism as a driver of social integration and economic growth for millions of people.

This year's parade featured an allegory of the Andean trilogy (condor, puma, and serpent) as part of the 2025 tourism procession.

Featuring delegations from all 13 provinces of Cusco region, the cultural event attracted visitors of various nationalities, as well as families, students, and passersby, who enjoyed and danced to the rhythm of each marching group parading at the Imperial City's Plaza de Armas (Main Square).

Thus, Cusco Region Government highlighted that it joins regional and national celebrations for World Tourism Day, as it is an activity that allows people to discover the cultural and natural wealth of other countries, bringing nations closer together and fostering a sense of shared humanity.

The Andean trilogy is deeply rooted in Inca culture, representing the connection between different planes of existence and the harmonious relationship between nature and human beings.

The Incas worshiped these animals through rituals and offerings, practices that remain alive in some Andean communities.

Nowadays, the trilogy is present in the vast majority of tourist attractions included in the Cusco Tourist Ticket.

The event also highlighted the sector's role as a platform to raise awareness about its economic, social, and cultural impact, while promoting sustainable, inclusive, and responsible tourism practices that protect both the environment and local communities.

The overarching goal is to showcase tourism's transformative potential in building peace, creating opportunities, and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Cusco: Safe Destination

As part of the celebrations, the "Cusco Safe Destination" digital platform was presented.

This initiative stems from a partnership between Cusco Region Government, through Gercetur, and the Tourism Police.

The platform allows users to verify the credentials of guides, agencies, and tourism police in real time, review services, leave feedback, and access reliable reports and statistics.

It is worth noting that a series of events continues throughout Tourism Month in Cusco, including the launch of new tourist routes, sector-related forums, and recognition of new hierarchies, among other activities.
