ANDINA

10:37 | Trujillo (La Libertad region), Jan. 20.

Pope Francis on Saturday morning received a huge ovation upon arrival at Trujillo's Huanchaco Beach, where he officiates a mass.

Around 500,000 believers are gathered in the seashore area.

With chants and cheers, thousands of parishioners greeted the Supreme Pontiff upon arrival at the scene onboard the Popemobile. Worshippers jumped and expressed their joy on the occasion.

Members of the Army and the Papal Guard escorted the vehicle bringing the Head of the Catholic Church into the zone.

Thousands of people had gathered at Huanchaco Beach Esplanade since Friday to grab a spot and participate in the religious ceremony His Holiness currently leads.

Dozens of children and teenagers —dressed in white and yellow— make up the choir that sings religious songs.

The event is part of Pope Francis' pastoral activities for the third day of his visit to Peru.
