Total credit to the private sector —which includes loans granted by banks, financial institutions, as well as municipal and rural saving entities— experienced expansion, climbing from 5.7% (2016) to 6.7% (2017), Central Reserve Bank (BCR) informed.
It must be noted this is the highest growth rate registered since July 2016.
Type of credit
As for the type of credit, loans granted to natural persons were the most dynamic, with an annual growth rate of 8.3% in 2017, whereas credit to enterprises expanded 5.7%.
Likewise, mortgage lending and consumer credit grew 8.5% and 8.2%, respectively.
Credit to companies
Credit to small- and micro-sized enterprises recorded an annual growth rate of 8.8%.
On the other hand, loans to the corporate sector and large companies expanded at an annual rate of 6.8%, while credit to
medium-sized enterprises grew 0.6%.
