Once the Peru-Australia Free Trade Agreement comes into force, 95% of Peruvian products will enter the Oceania country duty-free immediately, Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) pointed out.
According to Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Edgar Vasquez, such FTA will mainly benefit sectors such as farming, fishing, industry, textile and garment.
“Avocados, fresh grapes, blueberries, tangerines, asparagus, quinoa, prawns, natural pigments, alpaca clothing, as well as cotton shirts and t-shirts will immediately enter [Australia] without tariffs,” he expressed.
Likewise, Vasquez noted Peru’s non-traditional exports have a great
trade opportunity within the Australian market.
It must be noted this country —currently— purchases non-traditional products worth US$165 billion, which account for more than 85% of Australia's total imports.
"The economic, trade and political relations between Australia and Peru are at their best," he added.
