Peru will conduct more counter-terrorism and anti-drug operations in Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro rivers (Vraem) next year, Peruvian Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz affirmed.

Statements were made on Thursday as part of her administration's guidelines presentation at Congress.

During her speech, Araoz noted that 2,800 military operations have been carried out so far this year.

It must be mentioned Peru has 56 military bases throughout the area, by the way.

"To achieve peace in Vraem […] we've developed a strategy designed to reinforce territorial control," she underscored.

According to the Cabinet chief, offensive military actions are being undertaken in areas where the State has been absent.

In this regard, she said multi-sectoral operations have been enhanced in order to bring all necessary services to the most remote areas of the nation.

Likewise, Araoz noted that Armed Forces' efforts to improve economic development in the region were reinforced by building roads and bridges.
