Former Caracas City Mayor Antonio Ledezma arrived Wednesday in Lima to seek support and solidarity from Peruvian Government officials and other politicians, in the face of the increasingly-critical situation his country faces.

Ledezma is an opposition leader, who was under house arrest since 2015 for alleged coup plotting but escaped to Colombia last November before heading for Spain.

Upon arrival in Lima, he expressed his desire to meet with legislators and Executive Power officials, with the purpose of addressing his nation's current situation

Venezuela's accumulated inflation rate has exceeded 2,000%, and the number of citizens —who flee their country— is increasingly higher.

In addition, President Nicolas Maduro is seeking reelection, despite the polarization witnessed in that nation.

"I have come to Lima to seek support and solidarity from Peruvian authorities. I hope I will be able to talk with legislators and political leaders," he was quoted as saying.

It must be noted Ledezma's political tour in the region also included a visit to Chile, where he held a meeting with President-Elect Sebastian Piñera.
