Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski criticized the arrests of Venezuelan opposition leaders Leopoldo Lopez and Antonio Ledezma, branding them as "unacceptable."

Peru's top official called for democratic restoration in Venezuela, which is undergoing a political crisis following a Constituent Assembly election.

Via Twitter, Mr. Kuczynski called for the release of the two opposition leaders, who had been under house arrest.

"The arrests of Leopoldo Lopez and Antonio Ledezma are unacceptable. The unconditional release of prisoners and re-establishment of democracy in Venezuela is urgently necessary," reads his post.

Lopez's wife Lilian Tintori posted a video to show her husband being taken away. Additionally, she held the regime responsible for his life and physical integrity.

Both Lopez and Ledezma had called for a boycott of Sunday's vote for a Constituent Assembly.
