Paolo Guerrero's lawyers will issue a request for precautionary measure for FIFA to lift Peruvian striker's provisional suspension and let him play the second leg of the Peru-New Zealand FIFA World Cup intercontinental playoff tie.
According to Brazil's
sports outlet Globoesporte, the request will be submitted to FIFA's Disciplinary Committee first. If rejected, it will be forwarded to the Appeal Chamber.
In case of a negative answer, Peru's captain will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) based in Switzerland.
The Brazilian portal said Guerrero's defense thinks the measure could be implemented before the second playoff match in Lima on November 15.
Upon their arrival in Brazil, attorneys were optimistic, noting cocaine consumption has been ruled out.
The traces of benzoylecgonine —a metabolite of cocaine found in Guerrero's urine sample— were derived from coca leaves used to make tea in some South American countries.
The 33-year-old athlete was
suspended for 30 days for producing abnormal doping test result after a World Cup goal-less draw against Argentina on October 5.

The return leg will be held at Lima's National Stadium (Peru) on November 15 at 9:15 PM (local time).
Following both clashes, it will be known —finally— if Peruvians return to a World Cup after 35 years.
