The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) on Friday announced Peru's top striker and captain Paolo Guerrero has been temporarily banned for 30 days.
The 33-year-old athlete received such suspension for producing abnormal doping test result after a World Cup goal-less draw against Argentina on October 5.
Within this framework, the Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) issued an official statement via Twitter:
"The
FIFA Disciplinary Committee Chairman has informed us of Paolo Guerrero's provisional 30-day suspension measure for an
adverse analytical finding in the aforementioned control. The FPF respects and complies with
FIFA's decision. Likewise, we trust the facts will soon be clarified and the process will be definitively resolved."
In this sense, it is clear the Flamengo star will miss the
Peru-New Zealand playoff matches for the 2018 World Cup. However, actions by the federation or Guerrero himself are still unknown.
It must be noted today marked the last day of Peru's national soccer team training sessions at Lima-based National Sports Village (Videna). Such sporting event saw a tense and serious atmosphere as the squad realized about Guerrero's situation.
