Argentine Government repatriated 39 pre-Hispanic artifacts to Peru after more than 10 years of diplomatic efforts.

The ancient objects belong to Moche, Vicus, Chimu, Nazca and Lambayeque-Chimu cultures.

Handback ceremony took place at the Peruvian Embassy headquarters in Buenos Aires.

Attending the event were Argentina's Culture Minister Pablo Avelluto and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Daniel Raimondi.

The Peruvian delegation, on the other hand, featured Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio and Ambassador Jose Luis Perez Sanchez-Cerro.

According to senior officials from both nations, the repatriation process proves an exemplary achievement in cultural heritage conservation.

In fact —they added— it reinforces the historic friendship and cooperation ties between both nations and encourages further efforts in areas of common interest.

Additionally, Popolizio conferred the Decoration from the Order Jose Gregorio Paz Soldan's Merits on the Peruvian Diplomatic Service to Marcelo El-Haibe and Fernando Gomez, officers of the Argentine Federal Police.

Such agents played a substantial role in the restitution of 4,150 cultural antiquities recovered in 2015 and repatriated to Peru in 2016, after a legal process that lasted over 15 years.
