Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday affirmed that 5.3 million families across the country have each received the
, provided by the State to help those most in need during the coronavirus pandemic.
"So far, we have benefited 5.3 million families, who have been supported by the Universal Family Bonus that provides S/760 (US$223) to each beneficiary," he said in a press conference at the Lima-based Government Palace.
"The more than 5 million households represent over 15 million Peruvians who have received and benefited from this grant," he added.
"We began by identifying the poor and extremely poor families in the register and, then, we identified the
rural ones. Afterwards, we realized we had to deliver a universal grant, to families whose members are not on a payroll,” the statesman expressed.
"Although 5.3 million families have already received this grant from the Government, there are still 2 million households that have not, but we will do right by them in July, and thus benefit 7.3 million or up to 7.5 million," he added.
On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.
Wednesday marks the one-hundred-first day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
