The governments of Peru and Colombia will sign agreements in social security, education, defense, and border development during the 4th Peru-Colombia Binational Cabinet taking place in Cartagena de Indias on Tuesday.
Overall, both countries expect to enter into more than 130 commitments and 12 agreements. These include the coming start of operations of the Border Integration Zone Development Fund, an initiative to execute binational projects for the benefit of vulnerable populations.
The 4th
Binational Cabinet will address five thematic axes: security and defense; trade, economic development
and tourism; environment and mining-energy; social affairs and governance; as well as migration and border issues.
As part of the agenda, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski will today have a private
meeting with Colombian counterpart
Juan Manuel Santos. In parallel, the Peruvian Ministerial Cabinet will hold bilateral meetings with their Colombian counterparts.
Later, both Heads of State will preside over the Peru-Colombia Binational Cabinet. Among other topics, the event will address the
Venezuelan migration to Colombia and Peru, as well as the coming Summit of the Americas.
It is worth noting Peru and Colombia's bilateral ties are currently faring well, as evidenced by their bilateral trade, which exceeded US$1.9 billion in 2017.
In addition, both countries have established shared embassies in Viet Nam, Ghana and Azerbaijan, a successful integration mechanism that benefits both nations.
