Peru: Food exports to Russia may reach US$150 million in 2019

08:00 | Lima, Jun. 19.

Peruvian food exports to Russia might total US$150 million in 2019 thanks to the joint efforts —between private and public sectors— to capitalize on Peru's participation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) projected.

According to Adex Head Juan Varilias, the presence of Casa Peru and Casa Peru Trailer in this Eurasian country is another key factor that contributed to such projection.

It must be noted these two initiatives are part of a campaign —led by the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru)— to promote the Inca country's exportable offer in Russia.

Peruvian food shipments to this country amounted to US$33.298 million between January and April 2018, up by 41% over the similar period last year.

The most demanded goods included pomegranates, grapes, squids, mangoes, avocados, hakes, prawns, giant squids, and trouts.

Furthermore, Varilias highlighted the coordinated efforts undertaken by his guild, the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur), and PromPeru enabled them to showcase Peruvian products —such as food, textiles, and handicrafts— on said platforms.

"(….) Tourists from all over the world will enjoy our gastronomy, as well as our nature, which is full of beautiful landscapes and places that invite (potential visitors) to adventure," he noted.

Casa Peru in Russia was opened by Peruvian Ambassador to Russia Luis Benjamin Chimoy on Monday. The ceremony also saw the presence of Adex's First Vice-Chairman Max Alvarado and Pisco Committee Head William Urbina, as well as PromPeru Communications and Country Image Director Isabella Falco.
