In order to create and institutionalize a film committee for the country, Peru's Commission for Promotion of Export and Tourism (PromPeru) participated in the installation of the "Executive Bureau for the Promotion of Peru as a Destination for Filming Locations."

The committee, which marked the start of coordination meetings, was made possible thanks to the active management by PromPeru and representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Trade and Tourism; Culture; Transportation and Communications; Interior; Economy and Finance; as well as the National Superintendence of Tax Administration (Sunat); the National Service for Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp); the National Assembly of Regional Governments; the Peruvian Association of Municipalities; and private organizations from the film industry.

During this first meeting held at the Ministry of Economy-Finance last Thursday, the aim was also to address, identify, promote, and propose actions to attract international productions to Peru for filming movies, series, documentaries, and other audiovisual content.

This contributes to the country's economic growth and fosters a space for collaboration between the public and private sectors.

"It is essential to make our country an attractive destination for film locations because, this way, we help showcase our country and its different regions, generating a (positive) social, cultural, and economic impact, not only on the film and audiovisual sector but also on tourism. Therefore, our commitment is to continue investing in these dialogues that contribute to driving joint actions," said Angelica Matsuda, Executive-President of PromPeru.

The creation of the new Executive Bureau is based on Resolution N°255-2023 EF/10, which falls under the framework of Urgency Decree N°022-2019, boosting cinematographic and audiovisual activities in the country and designating PromPeru as the entity responsible for promoting the use of national territory locations for this purpose.

Matsuda added that in recent years PromPeru has received requests from various agents in the film and audiovisual industry for effective actions to develop policies and guidelines with the aim of turning our country into a filming destination.

The most noteworthy requests have been for the creation of a Peruvian Film Commission, tax incentive laws, and standardization of filming permits, among other actions.

In recent years, PromPeru has provided continuous support to national and international productions, such as "Hasta que nos volvamos a encontrar" by Tondero (Peru) for Netflix, "La Reina del Sur - Season 3" by Telemundo and Netflix (United States), "Don’t Look Up" by Netflix (United States), and "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" by Paramount Pictures (United States). This year, it is doing the same for the third installment of "Paddington" in Peru.

Currently, the website Film in Peru offers a catalog of locations with important content from different destinations in our country and provides necessary information for shooting in Peru.
