Dr. Elmer Huerta: "Peru close to passing the worst of coronavirus pandemic"

Dr. Elmer Huerta affirmed that Peru is close to passing the worst of the coronavirus pandemic and, therefore, the population must continue to comply with the quarantine "so as not to spoil" the efforts made.

Huerta reiterated that —according to a study by Mexican and Peruvian scientists— "Peru is in the middle of the plateau" but this is a long plateau, and this morning Health Minister Victor Zamora expressed agreement with him.
"This last two-week effort (the remainder of the quarantine period) requires a very important commitment. Let us not spoil it, we cannot relax our efforts," Huerta told RPP TV and radio station.
The public health specialist took advantage of the radio show to congratulate the majority of Peruvians who followed the quarantine rules and noted that this was achieved thanks to them.
However, he continued, we also ask those who are worried and find themselves needing to leave home to remain in isolation for two more weeks.
"Let us not ruin what we have achieved; it has been almost two months, so we cannot relax our efforts in the last two weeks and spoil everything. Let us do it for Peru and for our children," he added.
The remarks were made on the fifty-seventh day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the social isolation has been recently extended until May 24.
