The arrests were made on Tuesday, September 9, by the Peruvian National Police, who also seized the pistol allegedly used to shoot the Indonesian Embassy official.
An expert report released by the TV station Canal N concluded that the bullets from the seized weapon are the same as those found in both the victim's body and at the crime scene.
One of the five detainees is also the owner of the motorcycle allegedly used in the attack on the diplomat, for reasons yet to be clarified.
The Peruvian National Police announced on social media on the same Tuesday that the five individuals had been detained. Yet, the PNP did not specify their nationality or indicate that they were linked to the deadly attack on the Asian country's diplomat.
"In the (Lima) district of San Martin de Porres, following intelligence operations, the Police arrested alleged members of the criminal gang 'Los Maleantes del Cono' (The Cone Thugs). A loaded pistol, five explosives, and 15 meters of fuse were seized; drugs, 10 cellphones, and a motorcycle were also confiscated," the police stated that day.
The victim was attacked by the hitmen at the entrance of the building where he lived, in Lima's Lince district, as he was arriving by bicycle.
"The circumstances and motives behind this person's victimization are unknown, but a settling of scores cannot be ruled out," Lince Police Station Commissioner David Guivar told State channel TV Peru.
The same outlet reported that the 40-year-old diplomat had been residing in Peru for five months with his family, in the same building where he was killed on September 1.
