Coffee from different coffee-producing regions of Peru participated in a specialized tasting and presentation session held in Shanghai, within the framework of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), one of Asia's leading trade platforms.

The activity was part of a series of complementary promotional efforts aimed at strengthening the presence of Peruvian specialty coffee among buyers and industry professionals.

Peru's participation was managed by PromPeru's trade office in Shanghai, in partnership with the Hongqiao Coffee Port, a comprehensive coffee hub located in the city, created to connect imports, trade, promotion, and coffee culture in China.

The session was conceived as a strategic access platform to the Chinese market, with an emphasis on building sustainable business relationships and showcasing the diversity of Peruvian coffee origins.

Shanghai, home to more than 10,000 coffee shops and accounting for 22.2% of Peru's national coffee imports, has established itself as the main entry point for new, differentiated coffee offerings in the country.

The centerpiece of Peru's participation was a professional tasting that brought together more than 70 samples from Peru's main coffee-growing regions.

The selection included coffees that had participated in or been recognized by the Cup of Excellence competition, allowing the Chinese market to be presented with a representative sample of the highest quality standards achieved by Peruvian coffee farming.

During the tasting, attendees were able to appreciate a wide diversity of sensory profiles, with citrus and floral notes, chocolate nuances, bright acidity, and fruity expressions, reflecting the different climate, altitude, and soil conditions that characterize the country's coffee-growing regions.

The event also provided an opportunity to communicate the production model that sustains the national coffee industry, comprised of more than 220,000 farming families, many of whom work under shade-grown systems and with developing sustainable practices.

This approach adds value to the Peruvian offering in a context where Chinese buyers are showing increasing interest in product origin and traceability.

Holding this tasting and presentation session in Shanghai adds to other promotional actions developed by Promperu, an entity attached to Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), within the framework of the CIIE, and reaffirms its commitment to positioning Peruvian coffee in strategic markets, highlighting its quality, diversity and origin.
