The Ministry of Defense, through the Peruvian Army and in coordination with the National Police, carried out an operation that led to the eradication of over 119,000 marijuana seedlings in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro Rivers (Vraem), dealing another blow against drug trafficking.

This high-precision tactical intervention took place in Sarabamba, Anco district, La Mar province, Ayacucho region.

Personnel from the Second Wari Infantry Brigade took part in the operation, carried out through a coordinated incursion involving the Counterterrorism Battalion No. 34 and specialized units of the Peruvian National Police.

The eradicated marijuana seedlings were spread across three plots.

In addition, law enforcement dismantled two clandestine storage sites, where seven additional sacks containing illicit material were seized.

"The outcome of this operation contributes to ongoing efforts to restore calm and order in the VRAEM, where, a few days ago, the Army and the Police destroyed two rustic drug laboratories and other illicit supplies," the Ministry of Defense underscored.

Lastly, officials said the VRAEM pacification is a commitment of both the defense sector and the government. Thus, joint operations with the Peruvian National Police are carried out on an ongoing basis.

"The comprehensive development of this area of the country is a priority," the government agency concluded.
