Peru: Ambassador presents credentials to Director-General of UN Office at Geneva

Ambassador Elmer Schialer presented his letters of credence to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya.

With this event held on Tuesday, he officially assumed duties as Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations and other international bodies based in Geneva.

In his new role, the former Foreign Affairs Minister will promote strategic interests and policy positions of the Peruvian State.

His mandate covers engagement with more than 50 organizations and multilateral forums that make up the United Nations System in Geneva.

During the meeting with Director-General Valovaya, the ambassador recalled Peru's historic contribution to the UN System.

Likewise, the diplomat reaffirmed the South American country's commitment to the organization's founding principles.

Furthermore, Schialer underscored the importance of preserving the use of the Spanish language in multilateral forums.

He also reaffirmed Peru's ongoing willingness to strengthen cooperation mechanisms with the international system.

In turn, Valovaya acknowledged Peru's valuable contribution and extended a formal invitation to take part in The Beyond Lab, an initiative aimed at advancing sustainable development.
