European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) Chief Observer Annalisa Corrado on Monday announced that the delegation will seek meetings with all presidential candidates as part of its work within the framework of the 2026 General Elections.
"We, the mission, will meet with all the candidates who are available. We will try; it is not very easy with schedules; we will begin meeting them in the coming days. I believe that I personally, since I will not be here all the time, will not manage to meet all of them myself, but with the team we will try," Corrado said.
She added that the delegation will try to reach "as broadly as possible" in order to meet with the 35 presidential candidates still in the race for the General Elections scheduled for Sunday, April 12.
The foreign official said the EU EOM's purpose in the South American country is to support institutions in order to ensure elections that are transparent, peaceful, and as reliable as possible.
"So that everyone can have confidence that every vote counts. We are here at the disposal of the institutions to work alongside them without interference, without taking part in decisions, but helping with our experience," she pointed out.

Regarding the election day, Corrado said she hopes that April 12 will be "a democratic celebration," adding that everyone will be able to vote knowing well "what programs the candidates have."
Likewise, the chief observer called on presidential candidates to hold calm meetings with mutual respect, focusing their efforts on clearly explaining their government programs rather than generating confrontations.
At another point, Corrado explained that the observers received training from Peru's electoral bodies. Thus, she said she believes they will carry out an important task throughout the national territory.
This electoral process will allow Peruvians to go to the polls to elect the next President of the Republic, Vice Presidents, Senators, Deputies, and Representatives to the Andean Parliament.
The General Elections will be held on April 12, 2026, with a potential runoff for the presidential race scheduled for June 7 of the same year.
