Prime Minister Denisse Miralles stated on Wednesday that the government's priority is to reduce the time required to address the emergency, as well as restore gas service to the population and economic activity.

"Our priority is to restore the service because of the economic impact that could be generated if the situation worsens," Miralles said.

"The positive aspect is that, once in the area, we can implement an accelerated action plan to reduce this 14-day period, and we will not neglect ensuring that, when the investigation takes place, the corresponding actions are taken," she added.

The high-ranking official noted the government will prioritize households and critical assets, adding that work is underway to restore the normal functioning of gas distribution.

At another point, the Cabinet chief announced that a supreme decree has been approved authorizing companies and industries, with immediate effect, to use alternative fuels and energy sources during this contingency period.

"The government activated a rationing mechanism from the very first moment to guarantee the gas supply for households, mass transport, and the country's critical assets," she stated.

Similarly, the government's spokeswoman noted that the Health Ministry (Minsa) deployed medical units to the areas of Itaparay and Megantoni to provide medical care in the event of any contingency.

Moreover, the Prime Minister said this is a government of dialogue.

She added that taxi drivers' associations will be convened in order to listen to their concerns and demands arising from this unforeseen event, "which was not generated by us, but we have acted from the very first moment to solve it."

These remarks were made during a press conference held at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) headquarters in Lima.
