Seeking to consolidate a strategic partnership focused on sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and environmental protection, the Provincial Municipality of Lamas signed an agreement with the international organization New 7 Wonders, a global leader in promoting the planet's natural and cultural wonders.
The agreement was signed by Lamas Province Mayor May Diaz, on behalf of the local government, and by Dr. Cesar Zubiate, representing New 7 Wonders.
The partnership marks a significant milestone in efforts to position Lamas and San Martin Amazon region as an international tourism destination, grounded in principles of sustainability, cultural identity, and inclusive development.
The signing ceremony was held at the Waska Waska Warmi Wasi Artisan Center, an emblematic venue of local culture. It was attended by sectoral authorities, representatives of various institutions, and leaders of native communities.
Participants agreed in underscoring the significance of this agreement as an opportunity to revalue Amazonian cultural identity and strengthen responsible tourism.
During his remarks, the Lamas province mayor highlighted the agreement's strategic scope and its impact on local development, underscoring that the partnership represents a decisive step for the province's future.
"The signing of this agreement with New 7 Wonders represents a landmark step for the development of our province. Lamas is living history, ancestral culture, and natural wealth. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting responsible and sustainable tourism that creates real opportunities for our communities, while enhancing our identity and protecting the environment," the municipal authority stated.
"This strategic partnership will enable us to project Lamas and the San Martin Amazonia to the world, under international standards and with a comprehensive development vision," he added.
The agreement provides for a series of joint actions to be implemented in a coordinated manner by both institutions, through their respective technical bodies and executive departments.
Among the main commitments are the design and implementation of strategies aimed at promoting, as well as fostering sustainable and responsible tourism, relying on technical guidance and accreditation of actions provided by New 7 Wonders.
The initiative further seeks to enhance the global visibility of the Amazon, taking the Lamas province as a starting point, with the aim of positioning it on the international stage as an authentic, culturally alive, and environmentally responsible tourism destination.
Likewise, the agreement promotes the exchange of experiences and best practices under international standards in terms of sustainability, tourism education, cultural management, and environmental protection.
In turn, Dr. Zubiate highlighted the global role played by New 7 Wonders and reaffirmed the organization's commitment to Peru.
He indicated that the institution's work focuses on the promotion, protection, and enhancement of the world's natural and cultural heritage, supporting territories of high historical and environmental value.
"In Peru, our work focuses on strengthening sustainable tourism management, cultural education, and environmental conservation. Lamas is a territory of immense cultural and heritage value, and this partnership will make the Amazon more visible internationally, articulating efforts with local authorities and native communities, so that tourism becomes a genuine tool for development, inclusion, and national pride," he said.
With the signing of this agreement, the Provincial Municipality of Lamas reaffirms its commitment to a development model that prioritizes sustainability, respect for ancestral culture, and active community participation, laying the groundwork for tourism to become a driver of economic, social, and cultural growth for the province and San Martin region.
